AfriForum Alberton host community day at Brackendowns SAPS

AfriForum Alberton held a community day and a fund-raiser at Brackendowns SAPS on April 20.

AfriForum Alberton held a community day and a fundraiser at Brackendowns SAPS on April 20.

Themed Meet, Learn, and Inspire: the event allowed the community to learn more about how to deal safely with fires and environmental awareness.

They had time to engage with their safety organisations and security companies who ensure the safety of the communities.

Different community safety organisations, security companies, and local community vendors set up stalls.
Children had a lot of activities, including volleyball, hula hoops, tug-of-war, sack races, and a best-dressed competition.

“We love giving back to the community and that is why we organised the event,” said Roxy Scholtz, coordinator.
They hoped to raise funds through the event for the Brackenhurst Victim Support Unit, as they need a gazebo, tables, and chairs.

“They do a lot for the community, always assisting people with trauma counselling. We urge the community and security companies to assist,” said Geoff Steyn, CPF chairperson.

“It is an honour to be here today as both CPF and a community member. It is always important for community safety organisations, security companies, and the community to find time and engage with each other. These kinds of events bring us close and we are grateful to AfriForum Alberton for organising this event,” explained Vusi Mavuso.

According to Christopher Leslie, CPF member, AfriForum is planning an event on June 16. Christopher mentioned the community should look out for the announcement of the event.
