EMPD officers descended on Alberton for a by-laws enforcement campaign

Metro cops carried out clean-ups and traffic fine collections.

EMPD officers were out on the streets removing illegal structures and conducting fine collections between October 16 and 17.

In Mayberry Park, Swartkoppies Road, and along the R59 south, metro police conducted operations that saw the demolition of illegally erected structures and the confiscation of plastic containers.

EMPD officers demolished illegally erected structures that supposedly housed recyclers.

The plastic containers supposedly belonged to recyclers who also used the illegally built structures as their places of shelter. These locations were littered with plastic bottles when officers arrived.

These are some of the plastic bottles found by EMPD officers who were conducting clean-up operations in Alberton.

The by-laws enforcement campaign also saw EMPD officers set up a roadblock in Alberton and its purpose was to encourage motorists to settle their traffic infringement fines.

Metro police set up a roadblock aimed at traffic law education and fine collections.

Motorists who had outstanding bills were given a choice: settle the fine on the spot or face the possibility of arrest.

Some motorists were pulled over and given a chance to settle their outstanding traffic fines.

These campaigns were not only aimed at by-law enforcement, they also were aimed at educating the public about the importance of respecting by-laws and keeping roads safe.
