Michaela Michael achieves rare honour at Brackenhurst Primary

The 13-year-old, Michaela Michael is the second person to receive the white blazer In the history of Brackenhurst Primary School.

Former Brackenhurst Primary student and head girl of 2024, Michaela Michael, has not only reached for the stars but touched them with her exceptional achievements.

Throughout her primary school career, she consistently excelled, leaving an unforgettable mark in her final year.

Michaela was awarded the prestigious Dux Scholae Award, an honour given to the highest academic achiever in Grade Seven.

She dominated multiple subjects, earning the title of highest achiever in life orientation, natural sciences, technology, EMS, English, Afrikaans, and social sciences.

Her contributions to the school extended beyond academics.

She received the Esprit de Corps Award, recognising her as a student who embodied the school’s spirit and values while inspiring those around her to strive for excellence.

However, her achievements did not stop there. Michaela was also awarded the white blazer, the highest accolade at Brackenhurst Primary.

In the school’s 40-year history, this honour has only been awarded once before.

The white blazer is reserved for a student who has achieved full colours in academics, sports, culture, and community service testament to her all-round excellence.

A school’s pride and an inspiration to many

“Michaela’s achievements are outstanding, and she is truly an inspiration to us all. We wish her nothing but success in her high school journey.

“If she continues with the same passion, dedication, and faith that guided her over the past seven years, she will unlock incredible opportunities,” said her mother, Neetu Michael.

Michaela’s success is a reflection of her determination and resilience. She acknowledges that her journey was not always easy, as she faced challenges, including bullying and self-doubt.

However, through unwavering faith and belief in herself, she overcame these obstacles.

“I am extremely proud of my achievements. They are proof that hard work and God’s plan can take you to incredible heights,” said Michaela.

A leader in the making

Michaela not only excelled academically but also displayed exceptional leadership skills.

During her time as the head girl, Michaela led a team of approximately 50 learner representatives who volunteered at school events.

They consistently stepped up to serve her school community.

Her aspirations for the future are as ambitious as her primary school record. Michaela hopes to achieve cum laude in matric, become head girl in high school, and one day become a business owner who helps the less fortunate through her faith in God.

“I don’t have a specific role model. I aspire to live by the word of the Bible and the life that God wants me to live,” she shared.

A legacy of excellence

Michaela’s outstanding achievements throughout her primary school years include:

• Top achiever in grades four, five and six.

• Winner of the National Science Fair in grades five and six.

• First place in the Alberton Eisteddfod – English Drama Section (grades five and six).

• Bronze medalist at Eskom’s Young Scientists competition in Grade Six.

• South African Colours recipient for gymnastics (2022 and 2023).

• Silver medalist for floor and beam at the SA Gym Games, placing seventh overall.

A bright future ahead

Now attending Alberton High School, Michaela looks forward to continuing her passion for hockey, swimming, and gymnastics while exploring subjects such as hospitality, EMS, accounting, mathematics, business studies, physics and engineering.

Her parents Neetu and Fabian Michael, who have been unwavering in their support, expressed immense pride in her journey.

“As parents, we always encouraged her to block out negativity and focus on her goals. We never stood in the way of her success but rather reminded her that she could achieve anything she set her mind to. Her achievements are a testament to the truth of God’s word,” they said.

Michaela Michael’s primary school career is nothing short of extraordinary.

As she steps into high school, her story will continue to inspire young learners to dream big, work hard, and never lose sight of their values.
