Meet Hayleigh Stewart, a Grade Eight learner from Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School, was recently named among the best dancers at a Gauteng dance competition.
Stewart performed at the South African Hip Hop Crew Championships.

The championships were held at Lewende Woord Church, in Centurion on May 3.
The event is a multi-day, live event featuring the best dancers and showcasing the most technical impressive hip hop street dance crews from all nine provinces of SA.
Dance Crews compete on stage for the national champions’ crown, and to possibly represent SA at the World Hip Hop Championships in the USA.
The learner from Alberton performed outstandingly and clinched one of the top spots. Stewart placed third in the Varsity All Style Street Dance Solo Novice, a category she competed against with six other talented dancers.
She also took part in the HHI Varsity Crew Division Championships with her crew, D-Cypher, who achieved a sixth place finish.
In reaction to Stewart’s performance, the school released a statement congratulating their learner: “Hip Hop International is a prestigious competition that brings together dancers from across South Africa to compete for a chance to represent the country in the USA. We are incredibly proud of you Hayleigh, your dedication and talent is an inspiration. Keep dancing, Hayleigh,” read the statement.
