Cum Laude graduate walks with purpose

The Long Road Home… a story where passion meets purpose for Creative Academy School of Excellence teacher

Michaela Goncalves graduated Cum Laude with a degree in foundation phase teaching.

That sentence alone carries more than a celebration – it tells a story of redirection and purpose.

“After high school, I studied law. It sounded like the right path; a respected, secure and impressive path.
“Deep down, I knew I was not doing it for the right reasons. I was chasing a version of success that was not mine. Six years went by, and with every step, I felt more I felt increasingly disconnected from who I was meant to be,” Michaela explained.

“Eventually, God, gentle but persistent, steered me off the path I thought I wanted and led me back to what He always had in store for me.”

“I always had a heart for children. Teaching was never my Plan B. It was the plan I was created for all along.

“The transition was difficult. Starting over meant facing fears, feeling behind, and watching others move forward while I felt stuck. There were so many moments when I questioned myself and felt all those years of studying had amounted to nothing.

“I felt like I had failed—until that moment with the cap on my head and degree in hand, when I realised this was what all of it was for.”

“God knew I needed the detour. He used every wrong turn to prepare me for the right one. Now I walk into this new chapter as someone stepping boldly into her calling, with joy, purpose, and the unshakable truth that I am finally home.”

“The lesson here is always to follow your heart. Listen to that quiet voice inside you.

“Do not chase a career for status, pressure, or approval. Chase what sets your soul on fire, because when you follow your passion and trust the One who placed it there, you will never be lost. You will be on the long road home,” said Michaela.

“We are blessed not only to have qualified teachers but also those who live out their purpose, shaping the world one child at a time. We are proud of you,” said Principal Tyla-Jade Botha.
