Chuckles Nursery School shines spotlight on beloved aftercare teacher Taylor Norris

Parents at Chuckles Nursery School are singing the praises of aftercare teacher Taylor Norris, whose loving, dedicated care leaves a lasting impression on children every day.

Chuckles Nursery School recently celebrated one of its most cherished team members, the aftercare teacher Taylor Norris, for her outstanding dedication and her deep care for every child she works with.

Taylor has been part of the Chuckles family for over two years, and her gentle, nurturing approach has made her a favourite among children and parents.

Her commitment goes beyond helping with homework. It is about creating a safe and comforting space for children after a long school day.

“Aftercare is not about tests or grades,” Taylor explained.

“It is about giving children a safe, warm space to unwind, be themselves, get help when needed, and feel supported.”

A lifelong love of children and a natural passion for helping others fuelled her journey into teaching. While she tried working in different environments, nothing compared to the joy of guiding and caring for young minds.
“Growing up, I always loved being around children,” she shared.

“I worked in a few different environments, but I kept returning to my passion.”

“Becoming an aftercare teacher felt like the perfect way to combine my caring nature with my interest in child development. It is a role that allows me to support children emotionally, socially, and academically during those important hours after school.”

Remarkable teachers and mentors who made a lasting impact also inspired Taylor’s love of teaching. She hopes to be that kind of role model for the children she works with every day.

“I had a few special teachers and individuals in my life who showed me the power of kindness, patience, and consistency. Children also have this beautiful way of seeing the world. Working with them reminds me to be present, hopeful, and creative.”

Her teaching philosophy centres on respect, empathy, and connection. Taylor believes children thrive when they feel seen, safe, and supported.

“I try to create an environment where every child is treated with kindness, given opportunities to grow and taught that their voice matters. That is when real learning and confidence-building happen.”

In her aftercare classroom, children stay engaged through thoughtful activities, including reading, puzzles, outdoor play, creative crafts, and group games.

Her genuine enthusiasm and attentiveness have not gone unnoticed by her parents.

“It means everything to be appreciated. A lot of what we do happens behind the scenes, including comforting a child who had a bad day, helping with homework, or resolving little conflicts.

“When parents recognise that, it is incredibly meaningful. It reminds me why I do what I do.”

Taylor recalls a moment that brought her to tears when students who had struggled with reading suddenly blossomed in confidence.

“One day, completely on their own, they picked up a book and started reading out loud to a group of friends during free time. It was such a full-circle moment. Watching their confidence bloom like that showed me how much patience and consistency matter. Knowing I had a small part in it was incredibly emotional.”

Like any teacher, Taylor faces her share of challenges. One of the biggest is managing the wide range of ages and energy levels during aftercare.

“Some children are ready to run around, while others just want to relax. Finding the right balance can be tricky, but it helps me understand each child better.”

“Still, it is through those quiet, everyday interactions that Taylor finds her greatest joy in building trust, watching growth, and simply being a consistent presence in a child’s life.

“Children may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel,” she says. This quote keeps her motivated and reminds her of the impact she’s making every day.
