It was an emotional occasion at Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School last Saturday as the school’s matric rugby players took to their home field for the final time.

The day marked the end of an important chapter for seven learners who have proudly represented the school over the years, wearing the Marais Viljoen jersey and giving their all for their teammates and school.

Describing the occasion as a special final moment and a bittersweet day, the school paid tribute to the players’ commitment both on and off the field.

“For years, these boys have worn the Marais Viljoen jersey with pride, poured their hearts into the game, and given their all for their team, their school, and the ‘Blue Blood’ they love so dearly,” the school said.

Marais Viljoen added that the players’ impact extended far beyond the scoreboard.

“They didn’t just play matches; they created memories, built friendships, and left behind a legacy of which we are incredibly proud.”

The school thanked Caden Sheasby, Frikkie Horn, Dean Scheepers, Blake Worthington, Kabelo Tlhoale, Armandt Landman and Kiano Theron, all matric rugby players, for their contribution.

“Thank you for your dedication, perseverance, and for setting such a wonderful example for the younger players. You will always be part of the Marais Viljoen rugby family.”

Although their time playing home matches in blue has come to an end, the school encouraged the players to carry the values they have learnt through rugby into the future.

“May you carry the values that rugby and Marais Viljoen have instilled in you – respect, discipline, teamwork, and character -wherever life takes you.”
