Joshua, who started dancing at the age of seven in 2015, was scouted in early 2025 for the opportunity to compete internationally, and his selection proved well-earned.

The festival, which attracts top young performers from across Europe, Asia and beyond, is known for its fierce competition and high-calibre judges.

South Africa’s delegation, composed of gifted young artists from across the country, made a lasting impression, with Joshua emerging as a standout talent.

“It was a dream come true to represent South Africa and to perform on such a world-class stage,” said Joshua. “Seeing all the competition and talent from all over the world was an amazing experience. I’m proud of what we achieved as a team.”

The Sun of Italy Festival is a cultural celebration bringing together dancers, singers and performers from various countries. Held annually in the coastal town of Rimini, it gives young artists the opportunity to showcase their skills, connect with international peers and receive mentorship from seasoned professionals in their disciplines.

Joshua’s dual podium finish has not only brought pride to his family and Xtreme Dance Studio in Mulbarton but also spotlighted South Africa’s growing presence in the global performing arts arena.

Looking ahead, Joshua plans to continue training and competing, with his eyes now set on upcoming international dance conventions, and possibly pursuing professional dance studies abroad.

As Alberton cheers on one of its brightest young stars, there’s no doubt the world will be seeing much more of Joshua in the years to come.
