Eden Park Boxing Club celebrated the achievements of two talented boxers, Ruwaiden Olifant and Mlondolozi Poma, who represented Gauteng at the SANABO Youth and Elite National Championships held from July 7 to July 12.

Olifant impressed throughout the tournament by winning three consecutive bouts to secure a place in the final.

He put up a strong performance in the championship fight but narrowly lost by a 3-2 split decision. His excellent performances earned him the title of South African silver medalist. His determination, discipline and skill were on display throughout the competition.

“I am proud to have represented Gauteng at the SANABO National Championships. Winning the silver medal means a lot to me, and I am grateful for the support from my coach, my teammates and everyone who believed in me. Reaching the final has motivated me to train even harder and come back stronger next time,” said Olifant.

Poma made his debut at the national championships, where he competed against some of the country’s top amateur boxers.

He was eliminated in the quarter-finals by a strong opponent from the Eastern Cape. Although he did not reach the medal rounds, the tournament gave him valuable experience that will help him grow and improve in the sport.

“It was an honour to represent Gauteng at the National Championships. Although I didn’t get the result I wanted, I learned a lot from the experience. Competing against some of the country’s best boxers has motivated me to work even harder, improve my skills and come back stronger,” said Mlondolozi.

Both boxers are coached by Sydney Kok of Eden Park Boxing Club, whose commitment continues to develop young boxing talent and prepare athletes to compete at the highest national level.

The club congratulated Olifant and Poma on their achievements and wished them continued success as they work towards even greater accomplishments while proudly representing Eden Park and Gauteng.
