Sentinel Security joins EMPD in clearing illegal squatter camp near Eskom power station
A joint operation led by EMPD, with support from Sentinel Security and other stakeholders, cleared an illegal squatter camp and recycling site near the Eskom power station at the corner of Potgieter and Dan Jacobs streets on July 10.
A joint law enforcement operation was conducted at 06:30 on July 10 to clear an illegal squatter camp and recycling site on the veld near the Eskom power station at the corner of Potgieter and Dan Jacobs streets in Alrode.
The operation involved the EMPD, Sentinel Security, CPF and Securefire.
According to Sentinel Security, the objectives of the operation were to clear illegal recycling activities, improve the environment, remove illegal squatters, identify any live animals on the site and enforce municipal bylaws.
EMPD led and coordinated the operation, while the CPF assisted on-site.

Sentinel Security was present to help ensure the safety of law enforcement officials, community members and the public, while Securefire provided additional safety support.
During the operation, live animals were found on the property, and the relevant authorities indicated that the SPCA would be notified to assess the animals’ welfare.
Law enforcement officials warned the illegal occupants to seek alternative accommodation and allowed them time to remove their personal belongings before the clearing operation commenced.
Officials also informed the occupants that similar operations would continue to ensure local communities remain clean, safe and compliant with municipal bylaws.
EMPD thanked all participating stakeholders for their assistance in ensuring the operation was carried out successfully.
