LCARA launches September outreach drive to support rescue animals
The organisations hope the September drive will help meet the growing needs of Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association and ease the financial pressure of food and veterinary care.
The Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association (LCARA), in partnership with Women Rocking Real Estate, Bodmin Café and Free Chapel Alberton, is appealing to the community for support during its fur baby outreach September drive.
The initiative aims to raise food and supplies to care for rescue cats and dogs currently in need.
The organisation’s greatest expense is food, which costs around R35 000 every month.
Preferred food brands include Juava Cat and Dog, Complete Cat and Dog, Monty and Me, Ideal, Tip Top (Turf Pet), and Pick n Pay’s pet food range.
Donations of BowWow, Happy Hound, or Waggies are discouraged as they do not provide the necessary nutrition.
In addition to food, there is also an urgent need for blankets, leashes, harnesses, kennels, food and water bowls, as well as dog jackets.

Veterinary bills have already reached R60 000, placing further strain on the rescue operation’s resources.
“Every contribution helps us keep tails wagging and tummies full,” said organisers, urging the community to come forward in support.
Residents can drop off donations at the following points:
• Free Chapel Alberton, 25 General Alberts Avenue, Randhart (Fridays from 09:00 to 14:00)
• Bodmin Café, corner of Bodmin and Telewarren, New Redruth (Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 16:00)
For those unable to deliver, collections can be arranged by contacting Dorene van Tonder at 083 556 8810 or Liza Alves at 082 395 3322.
