Mall at Newmarket shapes future leaders through early responsibility lessons

In conjunction with Checkers Hyper, the Mall at Newmarket is helping shape tomorrow’s leaders today.

The Mall at Newmarket, in partnership with Checkers Hyper, is doing more than just providing a shopping experience – it is also investing in the future by teaching children the importance of responsibility from a young age.

In collaboration with local schools and preschools, the mall opens its doors each month to welcome learners for fun and practical lessons that prepare them for real life.

This month, Mathibela Early Childhood Development Centre from Leondale Gardens visited the mall.

The sessions focus on key life skills such as budgeting, planning ahead, and managing spending wisely.

Children are guided through activities that show the difference between needs and wants, helping them understand the value of making smart choices and being accountable for them.

The initiative has already made a strong impression on both learners and teachers. Mall general manager Jamila Keshwar said giving back to the community has always been at the heart of their efforts, whether through charity work or programmes like this one that build the leaders of tomorrow.

“We love seeing the children light up as they learn something new. For us, it is about more than shopping; it is about making sure our community grows stronger and that the next generation is ready to take on life’s ups and downs. We are already looking forward to the next visit,” she said.

By mixing education with fun, the Mall at Newmarket is shaping young minds while reminding the community that small lessons today can build great leaders for tomorrow.
