WATCH: Alberton’s Ontshiametse Morare is taking it upon herself to help vulnerable groups

The 20 year-old is calling on local businesses and non-profit organisations to support the cause of people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Twenty-year-old Ontshiametse Morare from Alberton is taking it upon herself to help people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups through her non-profit organisation, Abilities United.

“Since launching Abilities United, I have worked to close the disability divide, raise awareness in communities, promote inclusive practices and give back to underprivileged communities, particularly those living with physical disabilities. I want to ensure that people living with disabilities have equal access to resources,” said Morare during an interview with the Alberton Record.

Some of her work includes an outreach initiative in partnership with the Katleho Moeng Foundation and The Chef Next Door, where they served nourishing, specially prepared meals to children at an orphanage.

Morare’s first independent charitable event was held in September 2024 under the theme ‘I See You’. Through the event, she aimed to remind people living with disabilities that they are seen, valued, included and celebrated in society.

“As a person living with scoliosis, a condition that causes an abnormal curvature of the spine which impacts posture, mobility and self-esteem, I feel it is my duty to champion the rights of people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. Our work continues to touch lives throughout Gauteng. These acts of service reflect our belief that no effort is too small when done with kindness,” said Morare.

Morare is calling on local businesses and non-profit organisations to support the cause of people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

“We would appreciate sponsorships and donations of any kind to help us reach these groups of people. Abilities United is also open to collaborating with other NPOs in an effort to assist those living with disabilities and other vulnerabilities,” she added.
