Frederick ‘Freddie’ Vermeulen (42) stands accused of killing his then wife, Juanita Vermeulen. Juanita’s body was discovered in the boot of her vehicle at a shopping centre in Brackenhurst, Alberton.
The case against Alberton murder-accused Frederick ‘Freddie’ Vermeulen returned to the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on August 7.
Vermeulen appeared at District Criminal Court Two (DC2), where a decision on whether he would be tried in a Regional or High Court was to be made.
According to evidence before court, Juanita sustained nine stab wounds, four of which were on her chest, others on her thighs and upper limbs.
Her body was found in the boot of her vehicle in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Brackenhurst.
Vermeulen appoints new legal team
At the August 7 hearing, Vermeulen’s bail lawyer told the court that his services had been terminated and that the accused had appointed a new legal team to represent him.

Reasons for Vermeulen’s change in legal representation are unclear. He has appointed a new instructing attorney and an advocate to represent him.
Vermeulen will face trial in a Regional Court. The case was postponed to August 24, when it is expected that Vermeulen will be allocated a date for proceedings. He remains in custody until then.
