WATCH: Eden Park residents celebrate homeownership after Ekurhuleni handed over title deeds
Twenty families in Eden Park Ext 5 can now call their homes their own after receiving long-awaited title deeds from the City of Ekurhuleni.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) handed over 20 title deeds to delighted residents of Eden Park Ext 5, a significant step in the city’s commitment to restoring and empowering homeowners.
The event formed part of CoE’s ongoing title deed restoration programme, which seeks to ensure that the residents of subsidised houses receive full ownership of their properties.
The chairperson of the portfolio committee on Human Settlements, Clr Siphumule Ntombela, congratulated the new homeowners and encouraged them to safeguard their title deeds.
“Your title deed is more than a piece of paper. It is proof that the home you live in belongs to you. Take care of it, protect it, and let it remind you that you are part of the story of this city’s growth.
“It is a precious gift that represents security, dignity, and a lasting legacy for future generations,” said Ntombela.
Among the recipients was Esther Magwaza, who shared an emotional story of resilience and gratitude. Having recently recovered from an illness that confined her to the hospital, she expressed joy and relief at finally becoming the legal owner of her home.
“I never thought I would see this day. Owning my home gives me peace and hope for my children,” Magwaza said.

The handover was attended by local councillors, community leaders, and officials from the city’s Department of Human Settlements, who reaffirmed the municipality’s dedication to accelerating housing delivery and ensuring that all qualifying residents receive their rightful documentation.
As the event concluded, the hall echoed with songs of celebration and gratitude, a fitting reflection of a community taking another step toward security, dignity, and true homeownership.
