WATCH: Alberton’s Reading Refined group hosted a successful book review session
The book club’s founder, Lehlogonolo Madila, told the Alberton Record about how well-received the reading initiative has been, with some residents donating books.
Alberton’s Reading Redefined Book Club recently hosted a successful review session of Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab.
Tawwab, an American mental health expert, therapist and author, explores themes such as setting healthy boundaries, dealing with toxic people and cultivating fulfilling relationships with partners, friends and family.
The New York Times bestseller has inspired many readers seeking personal growth and balance.
Speaking about the event, Reading Redefined founder Lehlogonolo Madila said, “The main aim of today’s session was about setting healthy boundaries in our families, romantic relationships and workplaces. This was a very successful session because we are all leaving here with a better understanding of how boundaries should be set.”

Madila also expressed gratitude for the strong community support the club has received. “The book club has had an incredible response from Alberton residents. After reading about us in the Alberton Record, some residents donated books which will play a crucial role in helping us continue. We are very grateful to the community,” she said.
Recent studies continue to highlight the gap between adult literacy and functional literacy in South Africa, with many young learners struggling to read for meaning, making initiatives like Reading Redefined an important part of promoting a culture of reading.
