Social Upliftment Project launches its Seniors Supplementary Food Hamper Programme to support vulnerable elderly residents facing food insecurity, poor health and financial hardship.
The Social Upliftment Project has officially launched its Seniors Supplementary Food Hamper Programme, introducing another initiative to support vulnerable senior citizens across the Alberton community.
The programme will begin delivering food hampers on August 7, with priority given to elderly residents experiencing food insecurity, poor health and financial hardship.
They will deliver directly to those who are already registered to the organisation’s beneficiary list.
The new initiative will work alongside the organisation’s existing Cooked Meals Programme, which will continue operating.
Together, the two programmes aim to provide immediate nutritional relief while ensuring seniors receive ongoing care and support.
Chairperson of the Social Upliftment Project, Jayce Moodley, said the initiative is about more than just providing food.
“Our senior citizens have spent their lives building our families and communities. It is our responsibility to ensure that they are not forgotten during their most vulnerable years. This programme is about far more than providing food; it is about restoring dignity, offering hope and reminding every senior that they remain valued members of our community,” said Moodley.
As the need for assistance continues to increase, the organisation is appealing to businesses, churches, schools, community organisations and members of the public to support the programme.
Donations of non-perishable food items, financial contributions and volunteer assistance are all welcomed. Items such as tinned food, maize meal, rice and other essential groceries will help provide food hampers to more elderly residents in need.
The organisation thanked its volunteers, donors, sponsors and community partners for making the programme possible through their continued generosity and support.
The Social Upliftment Project plans to expand the programme over the coming months to reach even more vulnerable senior citizens in the communities it serves.
