WATCH: Opelweg Primary School unveils refurbished state of the art computer lab

The lab was upgraded after relentless efforts by the school’s fundraising chairperson, Dallon Bluemeyer and his colleagues, to secure funding for the quarter of a million project.

Opelweg Primary School recently unveiled its refurbished state-of-the-art computer lab, a milestone expected to prepare learners for careers aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the growing robotics sector.

The R250 000 project was made possible through the tireless efforts of the school’s fundraising chairperson Dallon Bluemeyer and his team who worked hard to secure sponsorships and donations.

“Thanks to the generosity of Inclusify Group, Phakama Academy, Ibhere Projects and individuals Jeanine, Mark and Renier, our 24 new laptops and fully upgraded lab will greatly benefit our learners,” said Bluemeyer.

School principal Doris Swartz expressed her delight, saying:“We at Opelweg Primary are thrilled. Our children are moving from strength to strength and we are equipping them with digital skills that will help them succeed in the future. We are deeply grateful to Ibhere Projects and all the donors who made our new ICT lab possible.”

During the launch, learners proudly showcased their newly acquired 4IR skills by building and programming small moving vehicles, which they demonstrated for guests. Each vehicle moved successfully according to the code written by the learners.

The event was attended by parents, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) officials, school governing body members and other community stakeholders who cheered in pride as the pupils demonstrated the power of digital learning in action.
