12 years, 0 absences: Hoërskool Alberton honours dedicated matric learner

From grades one to 12 – Toffie has maintained a 100% school attendance record. Hoërskool Alberton released a statement congratulating their matric pupil.

Avanie Toffie, a Hoërskool Alberton learner, has never missed a school day in her life.

Currently in Grade 12, Toffie has maintained a 100% school attendance record from grades one to 12.

The Alberton Record calculated the estimated number of days Toffie has spent in school over the course of her life.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) sets about 200 school days annually. Completed years from grades one to 11 are 11 years x 200 days/year = 2 200 days. Assuming Toffie does not miss the remainder of the 2025 academic year, we can add another 200 days, which brings the total number of days 2 400 over a 12-year school period.

These are merely estimates. The DBE’s 200 school days per year are a guideline and not a guarantee. The actual number may vary from year to year.

The Covid-19 pandemic also affected teaching and learning when the country went into lockdown.

Toffie’s school released a statement congratulating its matric learner.

“Hoërskool Alberton is proud of Avanie for an exceptional and inspiring achievement of 12 years of 100% attendance. Her dedication, determination and positive attitude serve as an example for our learners,” said the school in a statement.
