AA rally in Alberton to raise awareness about alcoholism
The JWRA District 4 Alcoholics Anonymous Rally will be held on February 21 at Bracken Park Hall, offering support, information and hope to those struggling with alcohol dependence.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other, so that they may solve their common problem of alcoholism and help others achieve sobriety.
AA is not allied to any sect, denomination, politics, organisations, or institutions. Their primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety by using a 12-step programme, which is very spiritual in its nature or in its entirety.
Through much research, AA have learnt that alcoholism is a disease from which medicine has not found a cure as yet. Their only relief is absolute abstinence.
The nature of alcoholism is a three-fold disease: an obsession of the mind, an allergy of the body and a hole in the soul.
How would anyone realise that they may be an alcoholic? This answer has come after many years of experimental drinking, at first, and then alcohol became a dependency. To sum this up, if when drinking, you cannot stop entirely or you have no control over the amount of alcohol you consume, then you are probably an alcoholic.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees. We are self-supporting through contributions from our members.
The JWRA District 4, Alcoholics Anonymous Rally will be held on February 21, at Bracken Park Hall, 228 Hennie Alberts Street, Brackenhurst, Alberton.
The purpose of the rally is to bring about awareness to the public, and mainly to those who may think that they too have a drinking problem.
The programme for the day offers various speakers who are alcoholics coming from all walks of life. Registration is from 08:00 to 09:00, and meetings will conclude at 17:00.
Entrance is free to all visitors, and all are welcome.
