From bullying to the big stage: Eden Park model earns exclusive invitation to New York

A local is preparing for an international modelling experience after being selected through a talent showcase.

Georgia Bezudeinhout (20) from Eden Park is turning being bullied into an opportunity.

After overcoming bullying and low self-esteem, she secured an invitation to attend Model Source in New York later this year.

Her modelling began during a difficult period at school, when bullying severely affected her confidence.

“I didn’t want to go to school. I had a few altercations with other girls to a point where I said, ‘I’m not going back there’,” she said.

To rebuild her confidence, she entered her first beauty pageant and placed as the second princess. That moment marked a turning point.

The Figures Academy later scouted her and, despite no formal modelling background, she received eight callbacks.

Georgia eventually stepped away from modelling to focus on completing matric, a decision, she says, helped her regain direction and stability.

In 2025, she auditioned at an open call hosted by the 33 and Me Talent Agency. She received a callback for commercial modelling and was chosen to participate in the International Arts and Talent Showcase.

The showcase was held at Montecasino in Johannesburg from December 5 to 7, with successful participants announced at an awards ceremony on December 7.

“I was shocked. I didn’t think I would get anything. I went there with an open mind,” she said.

Following the showcase, her selection was confirmed in writing by Model Source.

The invitation, issued on January 28, grants her access to attend Model Source in New York from July 28 to 31.
The invitation was issued by a director and model scout for Model Source in London and New York.
She will travel to New York on July 26.

Georgia is also an ambassador for the international gym brand Move, which has branches in SA, and her long-term goal is to build a career in commercial modelling and work with major brands.

“I’ve always wanted to do commercial modelling and earn money through modelling,” she said.

Born and raised in Eden Park, Georgia hopes her story will inspire young people, particularly girls from the townships.

“I want all the girls living in townships not to be scared to dream. They must know it’s possible for them to get these kinds of opportunities,” she said.

To help raise funds for her trip, she will host a fitness bash at the Eden Park Community Hall on April 11.

Georgia also appealed for community support, saying any contribution would help make the trip possible.

Despite acknowledging that there is a possibility she might not raise enough funds, she remains determined.

“That is not going to demotivate me,” Bezudeinhout said.
