East Rand Nomads' Christmas in July event supports local charities

The East Rand Nomads hosted their inaugural Christmas in July celebration at the Brackenhurst Bowling Club on July 26, bringing together members, friends and supporters for a day of bowls, fellowship and giving back.

Guests from the Crafty Rollers joined in the festivities, while Lloyd Nicholson entertained attendees in the role of Father Christmas, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The event focused on supporting two charities: the We’re Against Starvation (W.A.S) Foundation, based in Alberton North, and Rainbow Nation Animals in Drumblade, south of Johannesburg.

Through the generosity of bowlers and guests, the W.A.S Foundation received a R5 000 Checkers voucher and a collection of non-perishable food items to assist families facing food insecurity.

Rainbow Nation Animals also benefited from the initiative, receiving pet food for the animals in its care.

The East Rand Nomads will also make a financial contribution towards the organisation’s outstanding veterinary account to support its ongoing rescue work.

According to Gen Durand of Brackenhurst Bowling Club and East Rand Nomads, the success of the event was made possible through the support of numerous sponsors who donated prizes and giveaways, ensuring every guest left with a token to remember the day.

“Catering by Vista Chefs, led by Marina Simpson, was also well received by attendees,” she said.

Durand thanked everyone who attended, donated, sponsored prizes and contributed to the success of the inaugural event.

She said the overwhelming support demonstrated the power of community, fellowship and giving back.

“We hope that Christmas in July would become a much-loved annual tradition for the East Rand Nomads.”
