Fifteen-year-old Hoërskool Marais Viljoen learner Addisyn Moloney is continuing to make her mark in the world of motorsport journalism after covering the prestigious MXGP South Africa at Terra Topia.

Widely recognised as one of the world’s youngest fully accredited motoring journalists, Addisyn first entered the motorsport media industry at the age of eight when she received full media accreditation to cover the 10th anniversary of the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna in 2018.

Her latest achievement saw her granted full media access to the return of the FIM World Motocross Championship in South Africa, where she interviewed some of the biggest names in international motocross.

Although it was her first experience covering motocross, Addisyn quickly adapted to the fast paced environment.

“I was quite nervous initially as I have never covered MX before and have only seen what my dad has done, so doing the MXGP as my first dirt bike event ever was quite hectic,” she said.

As the weekend progressed, Addisyn interviewed current MXGP and MX2 championship leaders Sacha Coenen and Lucas Coenen, as well as South African stars Calvin Vlaanderen and Camden McLellan.

She also joined her father, motorsport commentator Greg Moloney, on the commentary team during Saturday’s free practice and qualifying sessions, further developing the commentary skills she has already showcased at previous events, including the Simola Hillclimb and the VW Rookie Cup.

Earlier this year, Addisyn also conducted the first official interview with actor Sung Kang, best known for his role as Han in the Fast & Furious film franchise, during the GAS Motor Show at Fast 5 Raceway.

This year she continues with coverage of the Ferris Cars Guinness World Record Rhino Run for Supercars at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, followed by Cars in the Park at Zwartkops, where she will work alongside the Cobra Club of South Africa.

With every event she covers, the young Alberton journalist continues to inspire other young people to pursue opportunities in motorsport media while proving that age is no barrier to achieving big dreams.
