NG Kerk Alberton-Suid to equip young adults for the real world

The JONK programme at NG Kerk Alberton-Suid continues to equip young adults with practical life skills and this March, the focus turns to the real secret behind financial growth.

The JONK Programme at NG Kerk Alberton-Suid has become a trusted and practical space where matric learners, students, and young working adults can develop essential life skills that build confidence, independence and self-reliance.

Over time, JONK has offered hands-on training in everyday skills that many young people never formally learn, including welding, plumbing, changing a tyre, baking a loaf of bread, and even Sokkie. Each session is led by a local expert in the relevant field, ensuring participants learn directly from people in their own community with real-world experience.

The programme’s strength lies in its practical approach: equipping young adults not only with knowledge, but with the confidence to handle real-life challenges.

Financial freedom takes centre stage:

The upcoming JONK evening will take place on March 13 at 17:00, and promises to be both timely and thought-provoking. The theme for the evening is: “Flat broke or well-off tomorrow – the real secret behind financial growth.” This month’s presenter is Gawie van der Walt, owner and lead financial advisor at G&S Insurance Brokers in Voortrekker Street.

With a career that began in 1986, Gawie brings nearly four decades of experience in financial planning and wealth management. As a father of four and grandfather of eight, he combines professional insight with personal life experience and offers young adults a grounded, relatable perspective on building long-term financial freedom and making wise money decisions early in life.

Young adults can expect practical guidance on financial growth, responsible planning, and how small decisions today can determine whether they remain flat broke or build a secure future.
