IEC announces June 2026 voter registration weekend

The Independent Electoral Commission has called on citizens to save the date for the national voter registration weekend on June 20 and 21 ahead of the 2026/27 local government elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has urged citizens to mark their calendars for the upcoming voter registration weekend ahead of the 2026/27 local government elections.

According to the IEC, the national registration weekend will take place on June 20 and 21, giving eligible voters across South Africa the opportunity to register for the first time or update their voting details before the municipal polls.

The campaign, promoted under the message, Let’s Get Voting Ready!, encourages residents not to delay their registration.

The commission is reminding the public that registering to vote is the first and essential step in participating in the country’s democratic process.

The IEC emphasised the importance of preparation, warning voters not to miss the chance to register.

“Don’t be the one saying ‘I was meant to register’. Take the first step and get voting ready,” the commission stated.

During the registration weekend, voting stations across the country will be open to assist citizens with registering or confirming their details on the voters’ roll.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure all eligible voters are prepared ahead of the local government elections.

Residents are encouraged to save the date, check their registration status and ensure their details are up to date so they can take part when South Africans head to the polls.

For more information, the IEC advises the public to visit its official website or contact its voter support services on 080 011 8000.
