Alberton Lions inspire community at heartfelt afternoon tea fundraiser
Local residents gathered at Reading Country Club for a moving afternoon of stories and support, with funds set to boost diabetes screening across Alberton.
Residents of Alberton came together in the spirit of compassion and community when the Alberton Lions Club hosted an inspiring afternoon tea on March 14.
Held at the picturesque Reading Country Club, the event created a warm and welcoming space for locals to connect while supporting a meaningful cause.
Guests were treated to a deeply moving programme, with keynote speakers Eric McKechnie and Gwen McKechnie, alongside Letitia de Kock, sharing powerful personal journeys.

Their stories of resilience, honesty and courage resonated strongly with attendees, leaving many inspired long after the event concluded.
The Lions expressed heartfelt appreciation to the speakers for their willingness to open up and connect so authentically with the Alberton community.
The event was organised by Lion Hannetjie Harvy, whose commitment and passion ensured its success. Her efforts helped create not only a memorable afternoon but also one with lasting impact.
There are already hopes that the tea will become a highlight on the local calendar in years to come. The event also served a greater purpose.

Proceeds raised will go towards diabetes awareness initiatives, including screenings at community events throughout Alberton and surrounding areas.
This will assist with early detection and education, a crucial step in tackling a condition affecting many South Africans.
The Alberton Lions thanked all residents who supported the initiative, emphasising that community involvement remains key to driving meaningful change.
Through initiatives like these, the organisation continues to uplift and serve, proving that even a simple gathering over tea can make a real difference in people’s lives.
