Alberton’s Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School netball stars smash Wesvalia in NWU Series showdown

Eight wins from nine matches and a clean sweep into the Top 8, Alberton’s netball powerhouse is firing on all cylinders.

Alberton is buzzing after Hoërskool Marais Viljoen High School delivered a blistering performance against Wesvalia in the prestigious North-West University (NWU) Series, and locals have every reason to brag.

In a display of grit, flair and pure netball class, the Marais Viljoen girls walked away with eight wins from nine matches, stamping their authority across almost every age group.

The only fixture not played was the third team clash, as Wesvalia did not field a side. HS Viljoen owned the courts and conquered the matches.

From the junior ranks right through to the seniors, it was a day where Alberton talent simply refused to back down. The U14B, U15A, U15B, U16A and U16B teams all secured convincing wins, while the U17A, second team and first team elevated the intensity even further with dominant performances.

The first team, in particular, lit up the court with a 36-11 demolition, a result that had supporters from all over Alberton on their feet. While the U14A side fell short in a tough encounter, the overall message was loud and clear: HS Marais Viljoen is a force to be reckoned with.

And then came the cherry on top: all 10 out of 10 Marais Viljoen teams officially qualified for the NWU Top 8.

Every single squad, from the youngest hopefuls to the seasoned seniors, will now compete among the best, which is a phenomenal achievement that speaks volumes about the school’s netball culture.

For residents across Alberton, this isn’t just another set of results; it’s a statement of local excellence.

Week after week, Marais Viljoen continues to raise the bar, proving that hard work, discipline and community support can produce something special. As the NWU Series heats up, one thing is certain: HS Viljoen is not just participating; they are going to show what this town is made of.
