Seven residents aged 90 and older were honoured at a heartfelt celebration filled with laughter, reflection and appreciation.

A warm atmosphere of appreciation and reflection filled the Alberton Retirement Village on March 25 as residents aged 90 and above were honoured during a special celebration.

Seven of the nine eligible elders attended the event, each arriving at the venue accompanied by a council member in a gesture of respect and care.

Adding a ceremonial touch to the occasion, council chairman Lafras Janse van Vuuren called out each resident’s name as they entered, walking down a red carpet to their seats.

Upon arrival, the guests spent time socialising, sharing stories and enjoying one another’s company over a meal.

The celebration featured a selection of delicious food and drinks, creating a relaxed, joyful atmosphere for the elderly residents.

Each attendee also received a thoughtfully prepared gift bag to take home, adding a personal touch to the day’s festivities.

Among those present was one of the oldest residents, Annette Jansen van Vuuren (97), who expressed her gratitude for the occasion.

“I am happy to be here,” she said with a smile.

When asked about the secret to living a long life, she humbly credited her faith. “It can be only God. If God wants it to be like this, then it will be like this,” she said.

As conversations flowed and laughter echoed through the venue, it was clear that the celebration was about more than just marking age milestones.

It was about honouring lives rich in experience, resilience and wisdom.

The Alberton Retirement Village continues its long-standing tradition of recognising its eldest residents, ensuring they feel valued and celebrated for the lives they have lived and the legacy they continue to share.
