Stepping Stone Hospice has welcomed Sr Mariona Wessels, who joined the organisation on April 1. She will be working closely with Sr Nomsa Shaba to support patients and families in the community.

Sr Mariona joins the 5-star and CoHSASA-accredited Hospice with 39 years of experience as a registered nurse, having worked across various healthcare fields including phlebotomy, primary healthcare, home care and geriatric nursing.

Now based in New Redruth, Mariona is driven by a deep passion for palliative care. She is committed to walking alongside patients during their most vulnerable moments, ensuring they are treated with dignity, respect and compassion until the end of their journey.

Outside of her professional life, Mariona is a devoted mother of three and a proud grandmother of two. In her free time, she enjoys painting, journaling, and staying active at the gym.

Founder and CEO of Stepping Stone Hospice, Tersia Burger, expressed her excitement about the new addition, saying Mariona’s experience and genuine care for patients make her a valuable asset to both the team and the families they serve.
