Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department finds weapons in Alberton

EMPD in Alberton recovered a pistol, shotgun and dozens of live rounds after acting on information about weapons hidden in a storage facility.

The EMPD made a significant discovery after uncovering abandoned firearms and ammunition in Alberton.

On Tuesday, April 14, at around 10:30, officers from the EMPD Community Liaison Unit responded to information about weapons allegedly stored in a unit on Goodwood Road.

Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant, who directed them to the exact location where the items were hidden.

Evidence was collected was stored in a unit on Goodwood Road.

A thorough search of the storage unit led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol, one magazine, a shotgun, 45 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and seven shotgun cartridges.

Authorities confirmed that statements were taken from those involved, and an inquiry docket has been opened.

All recovered items were seized and booked in at the Alberton Police Station for further investigation.

The EMPD has not yet confirmed the origin of the firearms or whether any suspects have been identified.

Investigations are ongoing.
