Daisies Café in Glenanda grows from weekend dream into community favourite

Built by hand and powered by passion, Daisies Café in Johannesburg South is turning a heartfelt dream into a welcoming space for connection and comfort.

Tucked along Vorster Avenue, Daisies Café is more than just a spot for coffee.

It is the result of determination, sacrifice and a dream that slowly came to life through hard work and belief.

For owner Raquel Pinto, the journey of building Daisies Café was never about simply opening a business. It was about creating something meaningful from the ground up.

“Daisies Café was never just a business idea; it started as a dream built from absolutely nothing,” she shared.
Every aspect of the café was crafted by hand.

Without a large team or financial backing, Pinto and her stepfather, Dieter, dedicated their limited free time to building the space themselves.

Working full-time during the week, the pair spent weekends putting together each detail, piece by piece.

“Every pole, every piece, every detail came together slowly, in the little time we had. It was built from nothing into something real, with our own hands and a whole lot of heart,” she said.

Taking the leap to open the café came with its share of uncertainty. Pinto describes it as one of the biggest risks of her life, stepping into the unknown with no guarantees of success.

“It was scary, uncertain and at times overwhelming,” she admitted.

Despite the challenges, the response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. From the moment the doors opened, customers showed up with support, encouragement and warmth.

“The amount of love and support we received was truly unmatched. Every coffee ordered, every kind word spoken, and every smile shared meant more than I can fully express,” Pinto said.

Daisies Café is becoming a cherished space in the community. More than just a café, it offers a sense of comfort and belonging where people can slow down and enjoy simple moments.

The name itself carries special meaning. Inspired by Pinto’s dog, Daisy, it reflects the essence of the café.

“She represents everything the brand stands for: softness, love and a sense of belonging,” Pinto explained.
