ER24 confirms victims taken to 4 hospitals after fatal R59 south off-ramp crash

Emergency responders say occupants were trapped inside the vehicles following the early morning collision at the R59 south off-ramp and Nelson Mandela intersection, prompting a coordinated rescue operation involving multiple EMS and fire services.

ER24 has confirmed the hospitals where victims from the fatal crash at the R59 south off-ramp and Nelson Mandela intersection in Alberton were transported, while stating there have been no further developments regarding fatalities or patient conditions.

The collision, involving two light bakkies, claimed one life and left several others injured earlier today.

According to ER24 Johannesburg South branch manager Faheem Essop, one patient was transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, three to Germiston Hospital, one to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital and one to Netcare Alberton Hospital.

Essop also confirmed that ER24 declared one person dead at the scene and that there have been no further developments regarding the accident.

In a separate statement, Fidelity ADT SecureFire detailed its response to the scene, confirming that its crews attended alongside municipal fire services and multiple emergency medical services.

The company said occupants were trapped inside the vehicles, requiring extrication efforts carried out in coordination with EMS personnel.

ER24, Netcare 911, Gauteng EMS and Gauteng EMS Rescue formed part of the multi-agency response, which included triage and treatment on scene before patients were transported to hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
