WATCH: Mayberry Park Babes Walk and Run launches community athletics club

Mayberry Park residents came together for Babes Walk and Run on October 10, marking the launch of Mayberry Miles Athletics Club, a community initiative welcoming walkers and runners of all ages and fitness levels.

A new community running club has officially launched in Mayberry Park, with an open invitation for residents to get active, connect with others and enjoy the benefits of walking and running.

The launch of Mayberry Miles Athletics Club coincided with Babes Walk and Run on October 10 at Mayberry Park Grounds, at the corner of Beesembos and Coral streets.

The event promoted wellness, community connection and women’s safety under the message of building “stronger people, healthier communities.”

Where everyone is welcome

Speaking about the initiative, organisers said the club was established for the community and welcomed everyone, regardless of age or running pace.

“Today we did ‘Babes Walk and Run’. We are also officially launching our running club – Mayberry Miles Athletics Club. This is for the community,” said the group in a statement. “Everybody is welcome to join us to walk and run.”

The club meets every Saturday at 07:00 at Mayberry Park Sports Club, corner of Besembos and Coral streets.

Beyond the physical activity, the programme included aerobics after the race. Safety and inclusion were also central to the event’s message, and family and friends were welcome to attend. Organisers reiterated that the club was open to everyone, describing it as a space for “all ages, all pace runners.”
