Snooker associations raise R3 400 and food donations for Alberton Lions Club
Two Gauteng snooker associations and players from the Faraad James Classic have turned their love of cue sports into community support, contributing money and essential food supplies to help the Alberton Lions Club assist families in need.
The Alberton Lions Club has received R3 400 in financial contributions and non-perishable food donations following a community fundraising initiative supported by the Gauteng Snooker Association, Central Gauteng Snooker Association and players competing in the Faraad James Classic.
The initiative brought together players, tournament organisers and community volunteers to support the Lions Club’s ongoing outreach projects.
A food drive held during the tournament collected non-perishable food items valued at approximately R1 000, with players and spectators contributing supplies for local families.
Financial contributions came from three sources.
The Gauteng Snooker Association donated R1 500 raised during a recent billiards tournament, while the Central Gauteng Snooker Association contributed its R1 500 prize money from the South African Inter-Provincial Tournament in Cape Town, where the association finished as runner-up.
Players participating in the Faraad James Classic also donated R400 from their personal winnings.
Together, the contributions amounted to R3 400, in addition to the donated food supplies.
Mukesh Dayah of the Alberton Lions Club expressed gratitude to Munier Cassim, chairman of the Gauteng Snooker Association, and Faraad James, chairman of the Central Gauteng Snooker Association, as well as the players who contributed to the initiative.
Dayah said the generosity would help the organisation continue its community outreach work and provide practical assistance to people in need.
The initiative highlights how sporting events and associations can extend their impact beyond competition by supporting community organisations and contributing to local welfare efforts.
