Junior Colleges Meyersdal students shine in eco-friendly fashion show
Creativity meets sustainability as young designers transform recyclables into fashion statements.
Creativity and sustainability took centre stage at the Junior Colleges Meyersdal when students wowed the audience with a fashion show featuring outfits made entirely from recyclable materials.
This event, held to celebrate World Recycling Day, showcased the young learners’ ingenuity and highlighted the importance of environmental conservation.
From accessories made of bottle caps to dresses crafted from newspapers and ensembles made from repurposed plastic bags, the students proved that waste can transform into wearable art.

Parents, teachers and fellow students cheered as the participants showcased their imaginative creations. Each carefully crafted outfit used discarded materials like cardboard, tin foil, old fabric scraps and even broken CDs, proving that sustainability can be stylish and fun.
“This event allowed our learners to express their creativity and taught them a valuable lesson about the importance of recycling and reusing,” said principal Elriza Riddle.
“Seeing their enthusiasm for protecting the planet while having so much fun is inspiring.”

The fashion show was one of the many activities held at the Junior Colleges Meyersdal to mark World Recycling Day. Other initiatives included classroom discussions on waste reduction, recycling drives and hands-on art projects using upcycled materials.
By engaging young minds in sustainable practices, Junior Colleges Meyersdal continues to foster a generation of environmentally responsible citizens.
As the students took their final walk down the runway, they left behind a trail of dazzling creativity and a powerful message: sustainability is always in style.
