Dladla stars as Elande triumph against Wanderers

In a stunning reversal of fortunes from the previous round, the second round of the Castle Lager Pirates Grand Challenge in Alberton showcased an exhilarating clash between Fidelity ADT Elande and Wanderers, leaving spectators on the edges of their seats.
Elande emerged victorious with a commanding 10-0 triumph, led by outstanding performances from Jarred Steyn and the indomitable Lindo ‘The Ox’ Dladla.
The match ignited with a breathtaking display of skill when Jarred Steyn embarked on a mesmerising run, shrugging off the relentless efforts of would-be tacklers. The crowd erupted as Dladla, known for his bone-crushing tackles, delivered a hit of the season on one of the Wanderers’ playmakers.
This early sequence of events set the tone for Elande’s dominance throughout the game, leaving Wanderers trailing 6-0.
As the game progressed, the 3 000-strong crowd got a treat to a display of champagne rugby from the Elande. In a departure from their usual style, Elande unleashed their attacking prowess, allowing their wings ample opportunities to exploit the open spaces.
This strategic adjustment was a game-changer, as the Elande’s tight five, led by Dladla, fought tooth and nail to reclaim their dominance in the scrum.
Elande’s relentless pressure resulted in an impressive total of nine tries throughout the match, with contributions from all members of the back three and the loose trio.
Keegan van Schalkwyk, another standout player, added a try, and a couple of successful conversions.

The Elande’s scoreboard came alive with a series of brilliant tries. Jarred Steyn found the try line twice, while Christian le Roux, Shaun Potgieter, Lesego Maelangwe, Van Schalkwyk, Jason Botha, Byron van Onselen, and Justin Liebenberg all made their mark with a try each. Van Schalkwyk showcased his kicking prowess by successfully converting four of the tries.
The final score of 53-13 sent the crowd into a rapturous celebration, which continued long into the night, accompanied by entertainment from the artist Juan Boucher.
