Alberton cyclists shine in opening round of 2025 Albion Time Trial Series
Alberton para-athlete Gavin Kilpatrick and veteran cyclist Roberto Gnudi delivered top-five finishes as the Albion Wheelers kicked off their 2025 Time Trail Series in Meyerton.
The Albion Wheelers Cycling Club officially launched its 2025 Time Trial Series on May 24, with a fast-paced 22km individual time trial on the scenic Bosco Loop in Meyerton.
The first of five races in this highly anticipated series drew 57 participants.
Among the standout riders were Alberton’s Gavin Kilpatrick and Roberto Gnudi, both of whom competed individually in their respective categories.
Although they rode solo in this event, the pair had previously made headlines as a tandem team during the Gauteng Time Trial Championships in January.
The duo blitzed the 27.2km road time trial course in 43:47, earning the overall best time and a gold medal in their category.
At the Bosco Loop opener, Willem Johannes (Wijan) Nieuwoudt of Fly Collective (Junior U19) took the top spot with an impressive 28:13.8.
Kilpatrick, competing in the junior Vet (30–39 years) category, finished fourth overall with a time of 30:53. Gnudi, racing in the Grand Master Vet (60+) division, followed closely in fifth at 30:53.3 – just 0.3 seconds behind.
This year’s series is part of the Gauteng Individual Time Trial Series. Riders’ best three Albion race results, combined with their performance at the Gauteng Time Trial Championships, will count toward selection for Gauteng colours.
The stakes are high, and the series is drawing top-tier cyclists from across Gauteng.
The remaining fixtures are as follows:
June 7 – Karee Kloof (18.5km)
June 21– Daleside / Circus Loop (14.5km)
July 5 – Circus / Drumblade Loop (26km)
July 19 – Daleside / Bosco (27km)
August 2 – Bosco Loop Fun Team TT (22km)
With strong opening performances, Kilpatrick and Gnudi are well-positioned for the season ahead as they continue to chase provincial honours and inspire the local cycling community.
