Alberton power lifters set to compete in world championships in Durban

Colin du Bryn and Mark Esch from Alberton’s Pitbull Club qualified for the 2025 World Powerlifting Championships after an excellent performance at WPC National Championships in Benoni.

Colin du Bryn and Mark Esch are ready to showcase their strength at the 2025 World Powerlifting Championships.

The duo from Alberton’s Pitbull Powerlifting Club qualified after outstanding performances at the WPC National Championships in Benoni.

Colin competed in the 100kg–110kg bodyweight equipped bench press (masters), while Mark competed in the 110kg – 125kg equipped bench press (masters).

“This journey has involved intense training, discipline and unwavering dedication. I’m especially proud to share that my coach recently set a new national bench press record of 165kg, proving what is possible with grit and passion,” said Mark.

“I also want to congratulate fellow Pitbull Powerlifting Club members: Michael Buys, who took first place in the 75kg junior males with a squat national record of 220kg, bench press of 135kg and deadlift of 240kg; Dewald van Deventer, who earned second place in the strict curl 60kg and first place in the free-standing curl 75kg; and Danie Martin, the first master, who placed third in both free-standing and strict curls.”

The WPC World Powerlifting Championships will be held in Durban from November 4 to 9. This will be Mark’s third world title if he is successful.
