Alberton High School badminton players shine at SA Schools Championships
The school returned from Durban with team bronze medals, a Best Team Spirit award and two gold medals won by Kirsty Correia.
Alberton High School’s top badminton players travelled to Durban to compete in the annual South African Schools Badminton Championships, held from August 7 to 10 at the KZN Badminton Hall.
According to the school, the championships proved to be another successful outing for its players and coaches, Barbara Bridger and Blair Evans.
The Alberton High School teams were recognised for their sportsmanship and team spirit, receiving the Best Team Spirit award.
Team and individual success
Both the boys’ A-team and girls’ A-team also secured bronze medals in the team events.
There was also success in the individual events, with Kirsty Correia claiming gold in the girls’ singles open event.
Kirsty partnered with Jade Henning to win gold in the girls’ doubles open event.
Alberton High School congratulated all the players and coaches for their performances and for what the school described as a fantastic season.
The results cap off a successful badminton season for the school.
