Aspiring rapper ready to take on the world

Up-and-coming artist Tebogo Bouwer (29) is working towards releasing his extended-play, which he intends to release early next year.

From recording from a home-based studio, Tebogo Bouwer (29) is confident to take his music career to greater heights. Bouwer, affectionately known as Bawa, is an Eden Park rapper, composer and performer who wants to make a strong comeback in music.  His music journey began in 2008 when he auditioned for a television show called Jam Alley and was chosen to being one of the contestants.

“My love for music started to really sink in then to an extent that most of my time was spent in the studio. I’ve worked with a couple of local artists and I have also released quite a number of singles under the music label Self-Made Productions,” he said.

The father of one told the RECORD he is very passionate about music and is ready to share his craft with the world. Bouwer’s multifaceted music is inspired by his life experiences and the society he lives in.

Humble beginnings

His love for music has always been there, but he first discovered his musical talent in high school.
“It started off with jotting down lyrics and it finally hit me that I was deeply passionate about music. I then focused more and eventually started recording at a friend’s recording studio. That’s where I learnt how to construct a song,” he said.
Originally from the Northern Cape, he initially came to Gauteng in pursuit of greener pastures without realising he would grow further in his music journey.
In 2008, he was caught in the limelight after gaining popularity from contesting in Jam Alley, which aired on SABC 1.
“During that time, I had told my mother I wanted to take part in this music competition and her support for my craft grew from there. She was even more proud when I came in second position. I was overjoyed and this made me feel like a celebrity,” he said.

Over the years, Bouwer’s hard work in recording hit singles such as Who I Am and many others paid off. He was recently nominated under the category of best upcoming artists in Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards for 2020. He is working towards realising his extended-play, which he intends to release early next year. For bookings, contact Tebogo Bouwer on 079 321 5271.
