GALLERY: Making the park clean for families

Chantel Habib and members from Habib Properties took initiative to clean up the community park at 2 Ring Road in New Redruth, Alberton, on February 13.
“We want a place where the children can play. We want to try avoiding an area where the grass is overgrown or stepping on broken bottles, and that can only happen when a place is clean. We will assist where we can,” Habib explained.
She said they understand that sometimes the councillor can be busy and as a community, they need to take a stand and assist one another.
“There is a lot the councillor does for our community and with this, we want to show we can assist her and we appreciate her for keeping the community together.”
Habib said there was a Facebook clean-up group for Alberton where people would post pictures of the dirty park.
“As a company, we decided to clean it up. We formed a WhatsApp group to chat with all our councillors in different areas to assist us in cleaning the park.”
She added that people from this area sit in the park and bring alcohol leaving the bottles and that can be a danger for the children.
“A huge thank you to all the councillors who joined us to ensure everything goes well,” she said.
