Braving the chilly air at Melville Koppies

Experience the Melville Koppies in its glorious autumn colours.

Despite the cold front that hit us on April 30 and reminded us that winter is just around the corner, keen hikers were undaunted and visited the Koppies on May 1.

Visit the Koppies and see its brand of autumn colours, the russet termite mounds, the quartzite rock and purple tinges in some of the grasses, as well as a variety of yellow flowers.

Melville Koppies Central (Nature Reserve and Heritage Site) is open every Sunday from 8am to 11.30am. No need to pre-book.

The cost is R80 for adults and R40 for children. All income used for maintenance and security of the Koppies, which costs approximately R22 000 per month, is needed.

Security on the Koppies is provided. Park in a secure parking opposite the entrance at Marks Park in Judith Road, Emmarentia. Mid-week tours can be arranged.
