WATCH: Entities join hands to restore dignity

Different organisations came together to host a street shower for the less privileged at Builders Destination on September 18.

Masses were pampered on September 18 during a street shower and numerous other services hosted at Builders Destination in Alberton North.

The event was made possible by Street Shower Outreach, in partnership with Salvation Foundation, Fearless Life Ministries, Addicts Voice and LOTS# (Life on the Streets – Alberton).

By 08:00, the homeless who sleep at five locations between Newmarket Park and Alberton North started queuing at the gate. Names were marked off against a list, of which 10 entered at a time with Covid-19 regulations strictly adhered to.

As the day progressed, they first sat for a haircut, shave and had their nails done. This was spearheaded by Rooftop Encounter Ministries.

The group then moved to the showers where old clothes were removed and the ‘dust of their soles’ washed away. They then received a new set of clothes and a Hope in a Box hamper donated by Beehive Foundation.

There was also a station dedicated to getting their curriculum vitae done, as well as a medical station. A rehabilitation centre offering its services to the group with a need to come clean from addiction was also present.
Eric McKechnie of LOTS# said due to the pandemic, the event had been postponed a number of times, but was a success at last.

“Through prayer and supplication, we decided no more. With three weeks to go, the wheels started turning, but not without challenges. The biggest challenge was to secure suitable premises for the event. Thanks to Builders Destination, we were able to move the tents to a perfect destination on very short notice,” he said.

According to Evette Kruger of Fearless Life Ministries, the event was organised with the purpose of serving the less privileged.

“We just wanted to serve them, and this was demonstrated by the many stations that were present. The group received warm meals and were ministered to. More than 90 people came through on the day. I believe this is just a start to big things to come for us all,” she said.

Piet Janse van Rensburg of Street Shower commended the partnership of all entities that came together to positively impact lives.

“I have not witnessed the body of Christ working together in such a powerful way ever before. There are no less than eight stations at these Street Shower events. It was so beautiful to see God’s elect come together with one heart to serve His people and restore their dignity,” he said.
