Rondebult husband gets 7 years for stabbing wife with dagger
After assaulting and stabbing his wife several times on April 13, as his wife was fetching kids for school, finally, the law took its course and the ex-husband was sent to jail for 7 years for attempted murder.
Alberton SAPS continues the fight against gender-based violence after helping to send a husband to jail for seven years for assaulting his ex-wife.
The police station reported that the husband stabbed his wife using a dagger. It was stated in the court this was attempted murder, as a dagger is a dangerous weapon.
According to Warrant Officer PJ Phokungwane, he dealt with the case to the best of his ability to investigate the case.
“GBV damages a person’s sense of self-worth, and self-esteem and violates the fundamental human right to be free from violence. It has an impact on both physical and mental health and can result in suicidal thoughts and attempts as well as self-harm, poor social skills and depression. By seeing the law taking its course, we hope it sends a message to other perpetrators,” said Phokungwane.
The man assaulted and stabbed his wife in front of their children and later the children were used as witnesses to the matter.
“After seeing the photos of the woman’s injuries I knew that something had to be done to protect the victim from this man. I worked day and night to ensure that the man does not get bail and fortunately he didn’t get it,” Phokongwane explained.
Alberton SAPS urged everyone to treat each other with respect, love, care and humanely to make the world a safe place.
