Kgololo Academy is proud to announce the appointment of Khanyisile Gcaleka to its board of directors.
Gcaleka holds the position of business development principal at Hollard Insurance. She has experience in volunteer advocacy, project management and business casing.
She grew up in Mandeni, northern KwaZulu-Natal, and matriculated from Sacred Heart Secondary School, a boarding school in Verulam. After a year at the University of Zululand, she was awarded a full scholarship through United States Agency for International Development to Hood College in Maryland, USA, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1992.
Through her research output, she was inducted into Kappa Omicron Nu, an honour society which recognises excellence in consumer behaviour sciences. She also holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.
On her return to South Africa, Gcaleka gained experience in public relations at Transnet, research at Sastech, and key account management at Ernst & Young. She joined Hollard in 2005 where she became the general manager of the Edcon Insurance joint venture.
Gcaleka is passionate about equipping the next generation for a challenging future and sees Kgololo Academy as the ideal vehicle to showcase accessible world-class education in SA’s townships and is keen to enable the founders’ vision.
