Advice Chuma, an ActionSA candidate for Ward 75

ActionSA ward 75 candidate Advice Chuma

In one sentence, who are you?
I am energetic young person, three times University of Johannesburg graduate, and activist and someone who is very passionate about addressing the issues of the community and young people.

What are the biggest issues facing your ward currently?
In Ward 75, service delivery has collapsed. No one is looking after the hostel, the temporary relocation units are still vacant. The roads in the ward are in a very bad state with potholes, and there are still residents in ward 75 that are still using bucket toilets; it’s inhumane. Those are some of the issues affecting residents in my ward.

What practical solutions would you prioritise should you be named councillor of your ward?
First thing first, it is the eradication of the bucket toilets. I think there is a lack of political will because in some congested areas where they previously relied on bucket toilets, they have been replaced with more humane structures. Also, at Madala, we still have containers that are unoccupied, while people are clustered there. We need a high-level engagement to understand what are the issues resulting in containers not occupied. We must make sure that people occupy those containers and thereafter we can be able to refurbish the hostel.

What is one misconception about you or your party that you would clarify?
People think ActionSA is a xenophobic political party but that is highly a misconception because we are not. We just want to make sure that people who are in the country are accounted for, meaning that they need come here legally. Personally, I would say people do not know my political history, I have been active since my days at the university level. So, I have been doing this for the longest time. I have accolades in terms of what I have done – Mail & Guardian young 200 South Africans, 100 Shining South African Star Future elect Southern Africa Leadership Programme Alumni.
