Organisation to motivate 2015 matrics

ALEXANDRA - Last year and this year's matriculants have received advise from a non profit organisation working on youth empowerment issues.

Last year and this year’s matriculants have received advice from a non-profit organisation dealing with youth empowerment.

The organisation Ubuhlobo Bokwenene has advised those matrics who didn’t do well last year that they could further their studies at FET colleges. The colleges provide vocational and occupational training in various fields including agriculture, arts and culture, business, commerce and management, education, building and construction among others. These matrics could also approach the organisation and the Youth Advisory Centre for advice. Both are based at the Multi Purpose Community Centre in 8th Avenue.

For the current matrics, Keith Nthite and Siphokazi Mphahlwana said the organisation would conduct a five-day back to school campaign at high schools in partnership with other community organisations, the police and volunteers. This will be to prepare the students for the gruelling school programme ahead and to help them grasp the importance of punctuality, proper dress code and conduct.

Also, the organisation will provide them support throughout the year by encouraging parents to check on their children’s progress and to ensure they developed good communication with teachers.

They further encouraged parents to act on any strange behaviour they may see in their children like from substance abuse.
