Lyndhurst Primary School joins twinning programme
JOBURG - Although, the Gauteng Department of Education has been applauded on having the highest pupil performance in the country, Gauteng MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, is however aware of other challenges that are faced by schools in and around Gauteng.
In light of this, Lyndhurst Primary School has joined the Twinning Programme and has paired with Bovet Primary School in Alexandra.
Lyndhurst Primary School principal Wellington Shaw said, “Our school has become one school with Bovet Primary. We are making sure communities have equal opportunities.” MEC Lesufi said, “I want our children to play together from Grade R to matric.” The MEC went on to say that they will be sharing online services, quality, information and knowledge. Lyndhurst Primary School is thrilled to be part of the programme which will aid in developing both them and their twin school.
The department has realised that the accessibility to resources and quality education may not be an easy one for all schools. Therefore, the programme will look at schools from township areas and former Model C schools. It will allow a single school governing body to govern two schools, one being a township school and the other being a suburban school.
Research, which was conducted by the Gauteng Department, has concluded that the programme has been carefully structured for the best of the school and pupils involved.
Many schools find themselves with insufficient infrastructure and resources. Schools also find themselves in situations where children are unable to interact with pupils at different schools due to the lack of social cohesion caused by low levels of integration.
The programme has been developed in terms of the Department’s Reorganisation of Schools’ Strategy which aims to achieve an optimal level of performance in all the schools in the province. Schools which are twinned together are able to share facilities with one another for the development and growth of both schools and pupils involved.
