Mystery surrounds a car that recently burnt to ashes in Alexandra on Selborne Avenue in the early hours of the morning.

Jabulani Phakathi, who also happens to be a runner for the Alex News newspaper delivery team, said he was woken up by smoke from the burning car and tried to put out the flames, but it was too late. The car belongs to Phakathi’s brother Lucky Siziba.

“When we parked the car it was fine, so we can’t say there was something wrong with it. We can see that someone poured petrol on the car,” said Phakathi. He said there were no injuries.

Siziba has a workshop where he fixes electricity appliances, and some of the fridges were also burnt.

Busani Siziba, the younger brother of Lucky and Phakathi said, “It’s a waste of time to report this incident because we do not have evidence of who did it. It has happened and there is nothing we can do.”

Busani added that all the gates get locked at night and the person must have jumped over the wall to get inside the yard.
