Sorry gets 15 year sentence for girlfriend’s murder

ALEXANDRA - David Sorry Nkuna, from Alex, pleaded guilty at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court to the murder of his girlfriend of over 10 years, was handed down a 15-year sentence.

He will serve an effective seven years after eight years were suspended.

David Sorry Nkuna pleaded guilty to the murder of Sibongile Mathosi who he stabbed seven times with a knife at their home in Extension 10 on 26 November last year.

The court heard that at around 8 pm on the night, the two, who were said to have argued and fought regularly, got into another fight outside their house. The neighbours had allegedly ignored them because they were tired of intervening in their altercations.

It was said Mathosi threw bricks at Nkuna who retreated into the house. After a while, the neighbours heard her scream and when they went out to check, they saw Nkuna walking away from her as she wailed in pain lying in a pool of blood.

The neighbours called the police and Emergency Management Services who, on arrival, found her motionless and declared her dead on the scene from the stab wounds.

Nkuna was said to have gone to his family home in Alexandra where relatives accompanied him when he went to turn himself in at the police station.
